Madge’s Opera scenes is named after one of Philo’s talented members, Miss Madge Chamberlin.

Madge served as a conductor for Philo for over 7 years, as well as being an enthusiastic member of Toowoomba’s classical music scene. In her honour we have started a small hopefully yearly event for local singers to come together and sing amazing opera works that they might otherwise not get to showcase.

Starting this year, 2022, we have a group of 18 talented singers, singing trios, quartets, duets and a final show stopper. The pieces are from Opera’s including by not limited to, Cosi fan tutte, die Fledermaus, Hansel & Gretel, and composers such as Mozart, Strauss, Monteverdi, and Purcell.

The performance is to be held in the Margaret Proellocks Concert Hall, named after one of the Society’s longest serving soloists, life long member and long serving Patron who passed away in 2021.

The concert starts at 2pm on Sunday July 10th, doors open at 1:30pm.
